My Two Year Social Media Experiment Comes To An End

I started Simplyrheumatoid.com as an experiment almost two years ago. As noted in some of my previous blog posts and social media feeds, I got on social media to investigate what the hell happened to some of my friends' and families' mentality. Some people on social media have mighty superegos. This subset of particular individuals believes that since some people select to follow them on social media, their opinions, perspectives, and outlooks somehow make them honorary judges, jury, kings, and queens. I find that mentality slightly disturbing, sorry but I do. I don't think my opinion, outlook, or perspective matters more than my seventy-year-old parents or in-laws. Nor do I think it would be fair to compare my life and mentality to someone living halfway across the United States or another country. Some people genuinely believe that because I follow them on social media, I am somehow in love with them, invested in their life, worship and admire everything they say and do; seriously, it is true, they feel that way. Beyond ridiculous and disturbing if you ask me. These people have no idea why I am or am not following them, but they choose to believe I am enamored with them and their lifestyle. Yikes! WTF are teachers teaching these days, and WTF are parents and society choosing to reward. Ugh!

Anyway, back to my experiment, website, and store and why I am closing it down. I learned a lot about social media, opening an online store, marketing products on social media, and learning how to blog even if no one reads it. I view these skills as valuable life lessons, and I am grateful that I had to funds and opportunity to learn and grow through this learning process. I am grateful to witness that some people care about the food system, the environment, and societal issues. I may have failed again with this business, but I hope for a win down the road. If that never comes to fruition, I'm okay with that too because each experience makes me a better person, or at least, I think so. I want to believe I tried my best to raise awareness for Rheumatoid Disease by building a supportive website, but I realize now that the bombardon of information, in particular, information from more reputable and engaging sources, I would be foolish to continue to try and compete with. I hope people never stop learning, engaging with others, remain open-minded, and chose to support the people, books, and charities I selected to highlight and support.

I want to thank anyone who took the time to follow me or visit my website and store. I wish I could have done a better job advocating for all the Arthritis warriors out there, but Dr. Bland, Dr. Hyman, Dr. Myers, and Dr. Bullmore, and others are shining bright now, thankfully.

SimplyRheumatoid.com's online store is now closed. The website will stay live for a bit longer but will close down by the end of the year.

I might eventually return to social media, but maybe to share things I find worthy of highlighting.
